And when fall salmon and trout leave a lake and enter a river on their spawning run they are very aggressive and eager to chase down any number of streamer patterns.

This is the time of season when colorful fall patterns like a Shufelt Special, Fox Hole Special or the infamous Montreal Whore get lots of attention, surf report hampton nh. Start by working your streamer close then slowly add a bit more line on each cast so to cover every bit of water.

Be sure to use a good stout leader, 6 to 10 lb test. The Moosehead Drainage has been growing some bragging sized brook trout and salmon lately so expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.

We see some of the biggest fish of the season during the fall runs. A small traditional Hornberg, Wood Special or Muddler Minnow fished wet or dry should attract plenty of attention. The catching and the landings were excellent. Most legal fish landed were pollock followed by haddock. The only other legal fish kept were two cusk. Released fish included the sub-legal haddock, forty-five dogfish, fifteen cod of five pounds or more, twenty or so small cod, a couple small pollock and four blue sharks.

Tim says some of the fish are beginning to change color, a change that usually indicates about two more weeks of very good salmon fishing before the bite begins to slow down.

Alan Nute at A. He says the salmon are slowing down a bit, but there are still plenty of hungry ones. He says the lake trout and rainbow trout are biting very well. That said, he expects a good bite for another couple of weeks on the big lake. Alan says spoons with white are working well and flies with red, orange, or brown are still working well.

He says the groundfishing is excellent right now. Scott says the key to not getting dogged out or pestered by porbeagle sharks is willingness to move. He says as soon as the sharks show up, they find another area to fish and that has been fruitful.

He reminded us that cod opens back up on September 15 for two weeks only. He says anglers can keep one cod at inches minimum. Pete tells us that Santini Tubes in red, honey mustard, and black are working well.
